Are you ready for flu season?

MOBILE, Ala. — Are you ready to protect yourself and those around you? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, public health professionals, and the Mobile County Health Department (MCHD) remind everyone that it’s time for your annual flu shot! Everyone 6 months of age and older should get vaccinated each year.

Getting your flu vaccine can reduce illness, missed work and school, and the risk of serious complications that could lead to hospitalization—or even death. The flu vaccine remains the best and most effective way to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Flu shots are now available!

“The annual flu vaccine is available at many pharmacies and clinics around the Mobile County,” said Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County. “Your health care professional can play a critical role in helping patients choose the right flu vaccine for themselves.”

Be ready! Stay healthy!

Even simple actions help — cover coughs and sneezes, wash your hands often, disinfect shared items, and stay home if you’re sick.

Each flu season is serious business: every year in the United States, seasonal flu kills more than 28,000 people and hospitalizes about 400,000 more. Seasonal flu outbreaks are an unfortunate mainstay of late fall and winter. Up to one in five Americans come down with the flu each season.

For most, symptoms fade within a week. But for some, the flu can be life-threatening.

This flu season, ask yourself: Are you ready? Get vaccinated today.
