Area food banks offering assistance

MOBILE, Ala. — Nutritious food is the foundation of lifelong health. In Mobile County, local food banks and pantries work every day to help our neighbors access wholesome foods, especially in difficult times. With the increasing presence of ultra-processed foods — those high in added sugars, unhealthy fats, and artificial additives — making healthy choices has become more important than ever for our community’s well-being.

Ultra-processed foods are convenient but are linked to higher rates of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic health issues. Unfortunately, these foods can be more common when budgets are tight or access to fresh options is limited. That’s why local food banks strive to provide nourishing fruits, vegetables, and unprocessed staples to families in need.

“Even small changes, like opting for fruits instead of packaged snacks or choosing water over sugary drinks, can make a meaningful difference in overall health, happiness, and energy,” said Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County.

Choose Nourishment, Support Healthy Living!

Our community’s strength starts with vibrant, healthy foods. Mobile County food banks and pantries are committed to helping all residents — children, seniors, and families—avoid the health risks of ultra-processed foods by distributing nourishing options that support a healthier future.

If you’re facing challenges putting nutritious food on the table, local assistance is available. If you can, consider donating or volunteering to help our neighbors. Every fresh fruit, every shared meal, supports a stronger, healthier Mobile County!
