Bayou La Batre reports on Sanitary Sewer Overflow

MOBILE, Ala. — The Utilities Board of the City of Bayou La Batre responded to a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) today. Utility officials say contractors hit a customer’s service line while boring under the road. This caused the SSO at the corner of Niolon Lane and Shell Belt Road.

The initial accident was reported at 12:30 p.m., and repairs were completed at 2:50 p.m. The SSO was contained within the site, with less than 10,000 gallons being released.

Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County, advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
