Board of Health continues guiding Mobile County public health efforts

MOBILE, Ala. — The Mobile County Health Department is proud to recognize the important role of the Mobile County Board of Health and to welcome Mobile County Commission President Connie Hudson as a member of the Board.

Pursuant to Title 22 Code of Alabama 1975, the Mobile County Board of Health provides oversight, guidance, and support for the work of Alabama’s oldest public health agency. The Board meets monthly to review Health Department activities and help ensure the agency remains focused on protecting and improving the health of Mobile County residents.

Dr. Caroline E. McGugin will serve as Chairman of the Board of Health, and Dr. Mark A. Haygood will serve as Secretary. Returning members also include Dr. Sudeep N. Rao, Dr. Michael L. Sternberg, Dr. Sarah Joiner, Dr. Lauren E. Lambrecht, and Commission President Connie Hudson.

“The Board of Health plays a vital role in helping guide the mission and work of the Mobile County Health Department,” said Dr. Kevin Michaels, Mobile County Health Officer. “We are grateful for the dedication of these physician leaders and for the continued partnership of the County Commission. We also sincerely thank former Commission President Merceria L. Ludgood for her leadership and service on the Board.”

Pursuant to state law, the Board of Health is composed of six physicians who serve on the Medical Society of Mobile County’s Board of Censors, along with the current president of the Mobile County Commission. Together, these members provide valuable professional insight and community leadership that strengthens the Health Department’s ability to serve residents across Mobile County.

Through its regular meetings and advisory role, the Board of Health supports the Health Department’s work in disease prevention, clinical services, environmental health, community education, and emergency preparedness. By bringing together medical expertise and public leadership, the Board remains an important part of advancing public health in Mobile County.
