CredibleMind app can help deal with managing news anxiety
MOBILE, Ala. — Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County, said he was recently speaking to someone who said they were going to quit following the news because of the numerous upsetting events which have recently occurred.
Among the stories mentioned were the fatal stabbing of a Ukrainian woman on a light rail system in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk during an event at college in Utah. And, of course, today marks the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
“They said this was all just too much,” Dr. Michaels added. “They plan to start binge watching comedy shows and football.
“Remembering those lost to tragedy is important — not only for honoring their lives but for keeping the good they represented in our hearts and communities.”
In May, the mental well-being platform called CredibleMind became available to Alabama residents. It is being offered thanks to a partnership with the Alabama Department of Public Health, Alabama Department of Mental Health, Jefferson County Department of Health, and Mobile County Health Department.
Dr. Michaels said the many violent acts reported by the media are exactly the type of situation where the CredibleMind app can be useful. To learn tools and tips for reducing stress and staying informed without feeling overwhelmed, visit https://alabama.crediblemind.com/lists/managing-news-anxiety.
In these overwhelming times — faced daily with local and national trauma — it’s easy to feel worn down, especially when constantly tuned in to news, social media, or streaming tragedies. Stepping away, even briefly, to enjoy the beauty around us is a simple, profound act of self-care that helps restore emotional balance and clarity.
Mental Health is constantly impacted by a combination of physical health, environment, lived experiences, genetic and other social drivers. There are hundreds of mental health conditions, though a condition may look different from one person to another. Age, genetics, and lifestyle are among several factors that influence how a mental health condition presents itself in an individual. Additionally, not everyone who experiences symptoms is diagnosed with a mental health condition.
“CredibleMind provides a means to empower and assist individuals to overcome mental health challenges through a confidential, personalized, accessible, immediate, and anonymous self-care and mental well-being platform,” Dr. Michaels said.
