Dauphin Island reports Sanitary Sewer Overflow
MOBILE, Ala. — Dauphin Island Water, Sewer and Fire Protection Authority responded to a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) on July 5. The overflow occurred at 12885 Padgett Switch Road.
Officials say the cause of the SSO was infiltration from heavy rainfall. The estimated overflow was more than 1,000 gallons and less than 10,000 gallons. The SSO was ground absorbed and did not reach a body of water.
Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County, advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
