Don’t let vaccine-preventable illness ruin your summer

MOBILE, Ala. — Summer should be a time for fun, travel, and making memories, not preventable illness. Families are encouraged to check their children’s vaccination status now to help protect against measles and other vaccine-preventable diseases before the busy summer season begins.

Children may be exposed to illness while traveling, attending camps, participating in group activities, or visiting family and friends. Vaccinations offer strong protection and are an important part of keeping children healthy and ready to enjoy the summer months.

“Don’t let a vaccine-preventable disease interrupt your plans,” said Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County. “A quick review of your child’s immunization record now can help prevent serious illness later.”

Families should contact their healthcare provider to make sure children are up to date on recommended vaccines. Stay healthy, stay immunized, and have a safe and fun summer.
