Dr. Woods-Crawford speaks at ‘Data to Delivery’ event

MOBILE, Ala. — Dr. Stephanie Woods-Crawford, the Executive Director of the Mobile County Health Department’s Prevention & Wellness Directorate, was the keynote speaker and one of several panelists Thursday night at an event hosted by the Alabama Chapter of Women in Healthcare along with the Association of Medical Facilities Professionals.

The title of the meeting was “From Data to Delivery: Shaping Hospital Strategy through Mobile’s Social Determinants of Health.” The event was dedicated to the intersection of hospital strategy and the social determinants of health.

“Our goal is to move beyond clinical symptoms to understand the geographic and economic factors driving health throughout Mobile County ZIP codes,” Lisa Herriott, President of the Alabama Chapter of Women in Healthcare wrote on why Dr. Woods-Crawford was invited. “Given her leadership at the Mobile County Health Department and her expertise in environmental equity, her insight into how Mobile’s industrial corridors impact both the workforce and residents would be the cornerstone of this conversation.

“We believe there is a unique synergy here: our members plan, design, and maintain the facilities that serve these communities, and Dr. Woods-Crawford holds the data on the health outcomes those environments produce.”

Dr. Woods-Crawford shared how MCHD uses information from its Data Analytics and Epidemiology team to influence programs and improve the health of the community. She also spoke on our mission, traditional public health responsibilities, and the shift of integrating chronic disease prevention (rates of hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and other chronic conditions) affecting our community.

The purpose of Women in Healthcare is to promote the professional development of women in the healthcare industry, to empower one another, support growth and mentorship, and support business through sharing successful techniques, leads, contacts, products and services.

The Association of Medical Facilities Professionals is a not-for-profit organization for hospital administrators, facility managers, real estate directors, medical property owners, planners, designers, contractors, consultants, vendors and academics who specialize in all types of healthcare environments.

The gathering was sponsored by USA Health.
