The Emergency Preparedness Program involves the planning and training for disasters or emergencies that pose a threat to community public health. This program has developed a plan describing the Health Department’s role for preparing and responding to natural and man-made disasters.
The Health Department works closely with area hospitals, first responders, government officials, non-healthcare organizations, and emergency management personnel in planning response efforts. The program concentrates its emergency preparedness efforts on natural and man-made disasters. These may include hurricanes, mass casualty events and participating in exercises with community partners.

Healthcare Coalition
The purpose of the Mobile County Healthcare Emergency Response Coalition (MCHERC) is to assist the local healthcare systems in meeting the needs of the whole community, ensure all people have equitable healthcare to improve patient outcomes, and to enhance the delivery system of preparedness, response, and recovery capabilities for the whole community in the event of a public health emergency or disaster.
The MCHERC is a voluntary collaboration among healthcare organizations, public and private sector partners in the Mobile County Public Health District. It is organized to prepare for the facilitated response to an emergency, mass casualty, or catastrophic health event.
