Healthy Start Enhanced says mental health support continues through the summer

MOBILE, Ala. — As summer begins, Healthy Start Enhanced reminds families that mental health support for pregnant and postpartum parents should not end with Mental Health Awareness Month. May served as an important reminder that emotional challenges during pregnancy and after childbirth are common, real, and treatable, and that message remains just as important in June, July, and beyond.

Pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period can bring major changes for moms, dads, and caregivers. During these summer months, Healthy Start Enhanced encourages families to stay connected to support, learn about available resources, and reach out early when emotional wellness concerns arise.

That is why Healthy Start Enhanced is such an important resource for families in our community. This exciting program helps parents navigate change, build confidence, and connect with support as they take on the tremendous role of shaping a new life.

Mental health support for parents does not need to end when May is over. Families deserve encouragement, education, and access to trusted help throughout pregnancy, after delivery, and during the transition into parenthood.

One important resource is the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline, which offers free, confidential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in English and Spanish for pregnant and postpartum individuals. Parents can call or text 1-833-TLC-MAMA to connect with help and support when they need it most.

Families can also explore additional support through Moms.gov and Alabama CredibleMind’s maternal mental health resources, which the Mobile County Health Department has highlighted as a resource for residents.

“No parent should feel alone during pregnancy or after the birth of a child,” said Dr. Kevin Michaels, Mobile County Health Officer. “Support is available, help is real, and caring for parental mental health is part of caring for the whole family.”

Healthy Start Enhanced is here to remind moms, dads, and caregivers that asking for help is a sign of strength. By connecting families with the right resources at the right time, we can help build healthier parents, healthier babies, and a healthier community.
