Heavy rains cause Sanitary Sewer Overflows
MOBILE, Ala. — Both Mobile Area Water and Sewer System (MAWSS) and the Prichard Water Works & Sewer Board are currently experiencing Sanitary Sewer Overflows as a result of heavy rains along the northern Gulf Coast.
For MAWSS, the waterways being affected are Three Mile Creek and Eslava Creek. The MAWSS sewer system is designed to collect and convey wastewater to a MAWSS wastewater treatment plant. During heavy rains, storm water infiltrates and inundates aging sewer lines causing manholes to overflow.
For Prichard, their crews are dealing with a dozen SSO locations. The waterways being affected are Three Mile Creek, Toulmins Spring Branch, and Gumtree Branch.
A complete list of overflow locations and volumes will be provided once all overflows have stopped.
