MAWSS reports on Sanitary Sewer Overflow

MOBILE, Ala. — Mobile Area Water & Sewer System (MAWSS) responded to a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) on August 27 at 6200 Rangeline Road.

Approximately 28,050 gallons of wastewater overflowed because of a third-party break on a lift station force main. The wastewater was contained and did not reach state waters.

MAWSS has repaired the pipe to stop the overflow and has taken the necessary steps to prevent future overflows at this location. The overflow was discovered by MAWSS personnel.

Mobile County Health Officer Dr. Kevin Michaels advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
