MAWSS reports on Sanitary Sewer Overflow
MOBILE, Ala. — Mobile Area Water & Sewer System (MAWSS) responded to a Sanitary Sewer Overflow on September 19 at 2401 Cone Street. Approximately 2,136 gallons of wastewater overflowed into Three Mile Creek as a result of a broken sewer main line.
A bypass line has been set up until repairs are complete. The overflow was discovered by a City of Mobile employee.
Mobile County Health Officer Dr. Kevin Michaels advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
Area residents should take precautions when using Three Mile Creek for recreational purposes because of this overflow. All seafood harvested in this general area should be thoroughly cooked before eating. People should wash their hands after cleaning seafood and before preparing food.
