MAWSS reports on Sanitary Sewer Overflow
MOBILE, Ala. — Mobile Area Water & Sewer System (MAWSS) responded to a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) on September 6 at 2026 Stonepine Drive East. Approximately 124 gallons of wastewater overflowed as a result of a break on a low-pressure force main.
All of the wastewater was contained and did not reach state waters. MAWSS crews repaired the force main and have taken the necessary steps to prevent future overflows at this location.
Dr. Kevin P. Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County, advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
