MAWSS reports on Sanitary Sewer Overflow

MOBILE, Ala. — Mobile Area Water & Sewer System (MAWSS) responded to a Sanitary Sewer Overflow on January 29 at 3851 Government Boulevard (Easement). Approximately 1,800 gallons of wastewater overflowed as result of a blockage.

All the wastewater was contained and did not reach state waters. MAWSS crews have cleared the blockage and are taking steps to prevent further overflows at this location. This overflow was reported by a concerned citizen.

Mobile County Health Officer Dr. Kevin Michaels advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
