MAWSS reports Sanitary Sewer Overflow caused by third party
MOBILE, Ala. — Mobile Area Water & Sewer System (MAWSS) responded to a wastewater overflow caused by a third party on August 18 at 6601 Meadow Lane North. Approximately 2,180 gallons of wastewater overflowed into a retention pond as a result of a contractor hitting a low-pressure sewer force main.
All wastewater was contained and did not reach state waters. MAWSS crews repaired the damaged main.
Dr. Bernard H. Eichold II, Health Officer for Mobile County, advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
