MCHD adds link to Alabama’s Community Health Opinion Survey on smartphone app
MOBILE, Ala. — The health and well-being of Alabama communities depend on hearing directly from the people who live, work, and raise their families here every day. As part of the Alabama Department of Public Health’s State Health Assessment process, residents are encouraged to participate in the Community Health Opinion Survey to share their views on the biggest health problems and barriers affecting their communities.
To make the process easier, a direct link to the survey has been placed on the front page of the Mobile County Health Department’s smartphone app called “My MCHD Health Check.”
The Mobile County Health Department app is available for download for free in the App Store and Google Play. Search “My MCHD Health Check” or visit the following link to download the app —https://apps.myocv.com/share/a65536603. The app can be used in both English and Spanish.
In Mobile County, we know that good health is shaped by more than access to medical care alone. It is influenced by where people live, learn, work, worship, and age. That is why community input is so important. The survey gives residents an opportunity to speak honestly about the issues they see around them, whether those concerns involve chronic disease, mental health, nutrition, access to care, transportation, housing, substance use, or other challenges that affect quality of life.
“As public health professionals, we are committed to improving the health and well-being of all Alabamians, and that work begins by listening,” said Dr. Kevin Michaels, Mobile County Health Officer. “The Community Health Opinion Survey gives people in Mobile County and across our state a voice in identifying the most pressing health concerns in their communities. Their feedback will help inform priorities, strengthen planning, and support efforts to build healthier communities for everyone.”
The State Health Assessment is an important step in understanding the health needs of Alabama residents and in guiding future public health strategies. Community perspectives help ensure that decisions are grounded in real experiences and that efforts are focused where they are needed most.
For Mobile County, this is an opportunity to highlight both our challenges and our strengths. Our community has long demonstrated resilience, compassion, and a strong commitment to helping one another. By participating in this survey, residents can help shape a clearer picture of local needs and support actions that promote healthier outcomes for individuals and families throughout the county.
“We want every resident to know that their opinion matters,” said Dr. Michaels. “Whether your concerns are about access to services, prevention, health education, or the everyday conditions that affect wellness, your voice can help guide meaningful improvement.”
