MCHD announces five more COVID-19 vaccine events

MOBILE, Ala. — The Mobile County Health Department’s (MCHD) COVID-19 Response Team is announcing additional opportunities to get your vaccine shots. As with all MCHD COVID-19 events, these will follow a first-come, first-served format. No appointments will be taken.

On Wednesday, December 15, MCHD will provide vaccine at Pine Grove Baptist Church (19130 Pine Grove Road in Mount Vernon) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. MCHD will provide either Pfizer (adult and pediatric), Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

On Wednesday, December 15, MCHD will provide vaccine at the U.S. Amines Industrial Park’s Training Room (14086 Highway 43 in Axis) from 1 to 4 p.m. MCHD will provide either Pfizer (adult and pediatric), Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

On Saturday, December 18, MCHD will provide vaccine at B.C. Rain High School’s gymnasium (3125 Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile) from 9 to 11 a.m. MCHD will provide either Pfizer (adult and pediatric), Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

On Saturday, December 18, MCHD will provide vaccine at Williamson High School and Middle School Preparatory Academy (1567 East Dublin Street in Mobile) from 1 to 4 p.m. MCHD will provide either Pfizer (adult and pediatric), Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

On Monday, December 20, MCHD will provide vaccine at the VIA! Health, Fitness and Enrichment Center (1717 Dauphin Street in Mobile) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. MCHD will provide either Pfizer (adult and pediatric), Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

These events are in addition to several other outreaches previously announced to take place prior to Christmas.

On Monday, December 13, MCHD will provide vaccine at the Dauphin Island Town Hall (1011 Bienville Boulevard) from 9 a.m. to noon. MCHD will provide either Pfizer (adult), Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

On Thursday, December 16, when MCHD will provide vaccine at First Baptist Church of Mobile (806 Government Street) from noon to 2 p.m. This event is sponsored by Alliance to the Medical Society of Mobile County. MCHD will provide either Pfizer (adult and pediatric), Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

On Monday, December 20, MCHD will provide vaccine at the Citronelle Recreation Center (8200 East State Street) from 1 to 3 p.m. MCHD will provide either Pfizer (adult and pediatric) or Moderna vaccine.

On Wednesday, December 22, MCHD will provide vaccine at the Semmes Branch of the Boys & Girls Club of South Alabama (3810 Wulff Road) from 2 to 5 p.m. MCHD will provide either Pfizer (adult and pediatric) or Moderna vaccine.

Booster shots

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky has endorsed the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ (ACIP) expanded recommendations for booster shots to include all adults ages 18 years and older who received a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least six months after their second dose.

The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) authorization and CDC’s recommendation for use are critical next steps forward in our country’s booster program – a program which will help provide increased protection against COVID-19 disease and death.

MCHD provides COVID-19 vaccines and walk-in rapid testing Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at its new location at the Festival Centre (Suite 101-A) in West Mobile. In addition to these hours, the clinic will be open every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The same services will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The location will be closed on Sundays.

Those coming for their booster shot should bring the CDC vaccination card that was presented to them after their primary shot. If you no longer have the card, please be prepared to wait for the MCHD staff to retrieve your information from the statewide vaccination system.

Individuals requesting a molecular test (Abbott ID Now) or a PCR test (through LabCorp) for personal preference or for travel must be tested at a Family Health location. Appointments for these specific tests may be made by calling 251-690-8889.

For those wishing to make an appointment to receive COVID-19 vaccine or a rapid test, MCHD is now offering Moderna vaccinations at several of its Family Health locations conveniently located throughout Mobile County. To secure a time to receive the shot, please call 251-690-8889.

Parents will need to sign a consent form for any person under 18 who wishes to receive the Pfizer vaccine. The parent does not have to be present, but a signed consent form is required.
