MCHD hosts Christmas Group Connect event

MOBILE, Ala. — On December 21, the Community Prevention Programs’ Family Support/Home Visitation staff welcomed participants and their families to the 2022 Christmas Group Connect. The event took place in the Mobile County Health Department’s Newburn Building auditorium.

The Home Visitation program offers home visitation and family support services for pregnant and parenting teens living in Mobile County. Services are also offered in Washington and Choctaw counties.

The theme for this year’s Christmas Group Connect was Winter Wonderland. The staff decorated the auditorium and provided an atmosphere filled with Christmas music and cheer. Participants and their families enjoyed an arts and crafts table, community services, toys, educational resource giveaways, and lunch.

The Mobile County Public School System and Pastor Consuela Lymon of Miracle Deliverance Temple Ministry donated toys for the children from which to select. Families also had the opportunity to receive information from community service agencies including Early Head Start and Child Care South, as well as the MCHD’s Fatherhood Initiative, and Community Prevention Programs’ Lead Poisoning Prevention, Maternal & Child Health, Tobacco Education, and Community Health Worker programs.

To promote oral health and encourage healthy dental hygiene, MCHD’s Dental Department provided dental screenings for the parents and children. In addition to the services, community resources, and fun, there was a special visit from Santa.
