MCHD offers resources to the community for Men’s Health Month
MOBILE, Ala. — In recognition of Men’s Health Month, MCHD joins communities across the nation in encouraging men to take proactive steps toward improving their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. MCHD support the Men’s Health Network theme — “Partners in Care: Advancing Men’s Health Through Connection, Education, & Advocacy Across the Lifespan — for Better Lifespans.”
Men’s Health Month serves as a reminder that preventive care, healthy lifestyle choices, and early detection of disease can significantly improve quality of life and reduce the risk of serious health conditions. Despite advances in healthcare, many men continue to delay routine medical visits and screenings, increasing their risk for preventable illnesses.
Throughout the month of June, MCHD is raising awareness about the importance of regular checkups, preventive screenings, physical activity, healthy nutrition, stress management, and mental health support.
“Men’s Health Month is our opportunity to change the conversation and, ultimately, to save lives right here in Mobile County,” said Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County.
According to health experts, some of the most important actions men can take include:
- Scheduling annual wellness exams and preventive screenings
- Monitoring blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels
- Maintaining a healthy diet and regular physical activity
- Prioritizing mental health and seeking support when needed
- Avoiding tobacco products and limiting alcohol consumption
- Getting adequate sleep and managing stress effectively
Some men may ask: Where do I start? How do I take charge of my overall health? Let us partner with you! MCHD has several programs focused on the health and well-being of men. Below are the programs that we offer to the community.
- Family Health Clinics
- Fatherhood Initiative Program
- Healthy Start Fatherhood
Men’s Health Month also highlights the importance of open conversations about health concerns. Early detection and treatment of conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, certain cancers, and mental health disorders can save lives.
MCHD encourages all community members to support the men in their lives by promoting healthy habits, encouraging regular medical care, and fostering environments where health and wellness are prioritized.
Together, we can build a stronger, healthier community by empowering men to take charge of their health and well-being.
