MCHD recognizes nationally certified Disease Intervention Specialists

MOBILE, Ala. — The Mobile County Health Department proudly congratulates its Sexually Transmitted Diseases’ (STD) Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) team on achieving a significant professional milestone by successfully passing the National Disease Intervention Specialist Certification Examination. This accomplishment officially recognizes these dedicated public health professionals as Nationally Certified Disease Intervention Specialists (CDIS).

This national certification reflects the team’s commitment to excellence in disease prevention, public health practice, and protecting the health of our community. Disease Intervention Specialists play a critical role in identifying and interrupting the spread of sexually transmitted infections by conducting disease investigations, providing education, connecting individuals to treatment, and ensuring timely partner notification and follow-up services.

The certified DIS team serves under the leadership and supervision of Cherrite Peterson, Public Health Administrator II, who oversees the Bureau of Disease Surveillance and Control. Mrs. Peterson commended the team for their dedication to professional development and their unwavering commitment to serving the citizens of Mobile County.

“This certification is a testament to the knowledge, professionalism, and compassion our Disease Intervention Specialists demonstrate every day,” she said. “Their commitment to excellence strengthens our public health response and ensures we continue providing the highest quality services to our community. I am incredibly proud of each team member for reaching this important milestone.”

The Mobile County Health Department recognizes that investing in workforce development enhances the quality of services provided to the public and reinforces its mission of preventing disease, promoting health, and protecting the well-being of all residents.

Congratulations to our newly Nationally Certified Disease Intervention Specialists on this outstanding achievement. Your dedication, hard work, and commitment to public health excellence make a lasting impact on the communities we serve.
