MCHD takes part in Title V conference

MOBILE, Ala. — Tokie Dunn, the Maternal & Child Health (MCH) program director for the Mobile County Health Department, recently took part in the 2026 Skills Institute for Title V Teams and Their Partners with the theme this year of “Growing Your Title V Impact Through Strategic Partnerships.”

Dunn was joined by Katherine Hert, the Alabama Department of Public Health’s Title V director, and Connie Martin, the Children’s Rehabilitation Services Assistant Director. This yearly impact initiative is sponsored by the National MCH Workforce Development Center and brings together Title V teams and partners to improve service coordination, expand capacity, and improve the sustainability of partnerships and programs.

The state of Alabama was one of 19 states and territories selected for this impactful event. This year’s event took place in Tempe, Arizona.

“The team from Alabama enjoyed networking, team building exercises, breakout sessions and activities to strengthen and enhance existing partnerships,” Dunn said. “One initiative the team plans to strengthen includes improving resources and education among the different agencies to improve care coordination with children & youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN).”

Title V of the Social Security Act authorizes the MCH Services Block Grant, which works to improve the health of pregnant women, mothers, and children — especially those with low-income or limited access to care. By strengthening access to quality, preventive, and family-centered services, the program helps families thrive and builds community resilience so Mobile County is better prepared to meet the health needs of mothers, children, and future generations.
