Mobile County celebrates Social Workers: Uplift. Defend. Transform.
MOBILE, Ala. — The Mobile County Health Department is proud to recognize and thank the social workers who serve across Mobile County, advancing the shared mission to uplift, defend, and transform the lives of our residents. From nonprofits and hospitals to schools, private practices, government agencies, faith-based organizations, and grassroots community groups, social workers are on the front lines of hope and change every day.
Social workers in Mobile County connect families to vital resources, support people experiencing homelessness, protect children and vulnerable adults, respond to crises, and advocate for fair access to health care, housing, behavioral health, and other essentials. Their work often happens quietly and behind the scenes, but its impact is felt in more stable families, safer communities, and improved health and well-being across our county.
“Social workers are often the bridge between crisis and stability,” said Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County. “They stand with people at their hardest moments and help them navigate complex systems, trauma, and uncertainty. Their dedication makes Mobile County stronger, healthier, and more just for everyone.”
This recognition extends to social workers serving in every setting — nonprofit and for-profit agencies, religious and secular organizations, urban and rural neighborhoods — who share a common commitment: to listen, to advocate, and to walk alongside those facing hardship. Whether serving children and youth, older adults, people with disabilities, survivors of violence, individuals experiencing homelessness, those with substance use or mental health challenges, or families in transition, social workers help turn struggle into possibility.
The Mobile County Health Department invites community members, partner organizations, and leaders to join in thanking social workers across Mobile County. A simple note of appreciation, a message on social media, or a moment taken in a staff meeting to recognize their contributions can go a long way.
