Mobile County’s Community Health Centers
MOBILE, Ala. — The Mobile County Health Department is reminding residents that no one has to go without basic health care, even if they are uninsured or struggling to afford coverage. Four Community Health Centers (CHC) operate multiple clinic sites across Mobile County, providing primary and preventive care for children, adults, and seniors regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
CHCs are community-based clinics that receive federal support to deliver high-quality medical, dental, and behavioral health services on a sliding fee scale based on family size and income. In Mobile County, this safety net is anchored by Family Health (the primary care division of the Mobile County Health Department), Franklin Primary Health Center, Accordia Health, and Mostellar Medical Center that together make care available Mobile County communities.
“Health care is a basic need, not a luxury,” said Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County. “These health centers are here for families, older adults, and young people who might otherwise delay care because of cost. If you have lost coverage or are worried about affording a doctor’s visit, there is a place in Mobile County where you can be seen.”
Services available through local CHCs include routine checkups, vaccinations, sick visits, women’s health, chronic disease management, and referrals to specialty care, with many locations also offering dental and behavioral health services. Health centers work with patients to determine eligibility for sliding-fee discounts and assist with applications for programs such as Medicaid, ALL Kids and other forms of coverage. Dr. Michaels goes on to state, “they represent part of safety net in our community.”
Mobile County residents seeking a CHC near them can contact Family Health at the Mobile County Health Department, Franklin Primary Health Center, Accordia Health or Mostellar Medical Center for information on locations, hours, and appointment availability.
