New STD registration fee approved

MOBILE, Ala. — The Mobile County Commission and the Mobile County Board of Health this week have approved an increase in the registration fee for Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) services. The fee has increased from $15 to $20.

STD services are available at the Mobile County Health Department’s (MCHD) Public Health Clinic located in the Newburn Building at 248 Cox Street in Mobile. The clinic is open Monday through Friday, with walk-in hours between 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Services include testing and treatment for individuals with symptoms or positive test results for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and trichomoniasis. Visits are walk-in only, and wait times may vary depending on patient volume.

The MCHD Public Health Clinic is one of several options for STD care in Mobile County. Primary care providers can also offer additional evaluations and treatments, including other STD-like illnesses such as hepatitis, herpes, Human papilloma virus (HPV), or if sexually active forms of ringworm.

In addition to Family Health, individuals may seek primary care services at one of the federally qualified health centers in Mobile County, such as Accordia Health, Franklin Health Primary Health Center, or Mostellar Medical Center; for those who do not have a primary care provider, appointments can be made through Family Health, the primary care division of the Mobile County Health Department, by calling 251-690-8889.
