November marks National Family Caregivers Month

MOBILE, Ala. — This November, the Mobile County Health Department joins the nation in recognizing National Family Caregivers Month, a time to honor the immense dedication, compassion, and resilience of the millions of individuals who selflessly care for family members and friends facing health challenges or disabilities.

Family caregivers provide crucial support — from managing complex medical needs to helping with daily activities and offering comfort during difficult times. Their tireless work allows loved ones to remain at home and connected to their communities, often at a significant personal sacrifice.

“This month is about shining a light on caregivers’ everyday strengths — the patience, resourcefulness, and love they give so freely,” said Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County. “We encourage everyone to recognize the caregivers in their lives, offer support, and connect them with resources that can make a difference.”

The 2025 theme of “Plug-in to Care” focuses on the power of connection — linking caregivers to the networks, tools, and community support they need and deserve. Throughout November, agencies and organizations across Mobile County are hosting appreciation events, wellness activities, and opportunities for the community to express gratitude to caregivers.

In May, the mental well-being platform called CredibleMind became available to Alabama residents. It is being offered thanks to a partnership with the Alabama Department of Public Health, Alabama Department of Mental Health, Jefferson County Department of Health, and Mobile County Health Department.

Dr. Michaels said dealing with stress, anger, sadness or worry is situation where the app can be useful. To learn tools and tips for reducing stress and staying informed without feeling overwhelmed, visit https://alabama.crediblemind.com/topics/caregiving.

The Mobile County Health Department applauds every caregiver’s strength and commitment. We urge neighbors and loved ones to support caregivers in their lives — not just during November, but every day.

Together, through awareness and action, we can help build a healthier, stronger Mobile County.
