Prichard reports on another Sanitary Sewer Overflow
MOBILE, Ala. — Prichard Water Works & Sewer has reported on a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) that occurred at its lift station adjacent to 1104 First Avenue. The total volume lost was less than 1,000 gallons.
Prichard officials say the cause was a gasket failure on a bypass pump that is installed at the station. The area has been disinfected and the problem with the hose on the pump has been resolved.
The overflow was ground absorbed. Residents nearest to the lift station notified Prichard officials of the situation and are aware of the SSO.
Dr. Bernard H. Eichold II, Health Officer for Mobile County, advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
