Prichard reports on Sanitary Sewer Overflows
MOBILE, Ala. — Prichard Water Works & Sewer Board has reported on Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO) that took place this week. The cause was heavy rain.
The initial SSO at West Prichard Avenue began on May 1 and ended on May 3. An estimated 297,900 gallons of overflow reached Toulmins Spring Branch.
The second SSO at 933 Semler Street began and ended on May 2. An estimated 32,300 gallons of overreached reach Three Mile Creek.
Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County, reminds residents to avoid contact with affected water, soil, and any obvious sewage, keep children and pets away from ditches, creeks, flooded areas, and standing water that may be contaminated, and not to swim, wade, or fish in posted areas or in water that looks or smells contaminated.
Most importantly if you have contact with possibly contaminated water or soil, wash skin and clothing thoroughly with soap and clean water as soon as possible.\
