Prichard reports Sanitary Sewer Overflow
MOBILE, Ala. — Prichard Water Works & Sewer experienced a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) on April 26. The overflow was at the intersection of Martha Avenue and Old Citronelle Highway. The cause of the discharge was a mechanical failure at a lift station. The estimated volume lost was less than 1,000 gallons. Prichard officials report the SSO did not reach a body of water. Dr. Bernard H. Eichold II, Health Officer for Mobile County, advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
