Prichard supplies update on Sanitary Sewer Overflows
MOBILE, Ala. — Prichard Water Works & Sewer has responded to numerous Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO) caused by recent heavy rains.
Officials said SSO events are ongoing at numerous locations as of Thursday morning. These are at 301 Sample Street, 854 College Street, the intersection of Whistler Street and Bessemer Court, the intersection of Whistler Street and Patricia Avenue, and the intersection of Chin Street and Butts Street.
Prichard officials say the following overflows have stopped:

2408 Whistler Ave.; 96,000; Gum Tree Branch
830 Strauss Ave.; 48,000; Gum Tree Branch
Prichard Ave. @ Newsome St.; 240,000; Gum Tree Branch
Dr. Bernard H. Eichold II, Health Officer for Mobile County, advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of these overflows. Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
Area residents should take precautions when using Gum Tree Branch for recreational purposes because of these overflows. All seafood harvested in this general area should be thoroughly cooked before eating. People should wash hands after cleaning seafood and before preparing food.
