Protect Your Holidays: Get Your Flu and COVID-19 Vaccines

MOBILE, Ala. — Keep your celebrations healthy this holiday season! The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), public health professionals, and the Mobile County Health Department (MCHD) remind everyone to protect themselves and loved ones by staying up to date on COVID-19 and flu vaccinations.

Both viruses remain active each winter and can lead to serious illness, hospitalization, or even death — especially for older adults, young children, and people with health conditions. The CDC continues to recommend yearly flu vaccination for everyone age 6 months and older and encourages individuals to talk with their healthcare provider about receiving an updated 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccine to enhance protection against the latest circulating variants.

There is good news: You can safely receive your flu and COVID-19 vaccines at the same visit. Getting both now helps ensure your body builds protection before gatherings, travel, and colder weather arrive.

Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County, reminds residents that, “The best gift you can give your family this season is the gift of health. Vaccination keeps our communities strong and our holidays safer.”

Vaccines are widely available at local pharmacies, clinics, and healthcare offices.

Stay healthy this holiday season:
• Get your COVID-19 and flu vaccines early—ideally before Thanksgiving.
• Wash your hands often and cover coughs and sneezes.
• Disinfect shared items and surfaces regularly.
• Stay home when sick to protect others.
• This winter, protect your joy, your family, and your community.
• Get vaccinated and keep the holidays healthy.

This winter, protect your joy, your family, and your community. Get vaccinated and keep the holidays healthy.
