MOBILE, Ala. — Saraland Water and Sewer Service has reported on a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) that occurred on February 1. The cause was a blockage that was caused by rags and paper.

The SSO occurred at the intersection of Henry Street and the Saraland Middle School’s back entrance road. An estimated 500 gallons absorbed by the ground. The affected area was rinsed and disinfected.

Dr. Kevin Philip Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County, advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
