Satsuma reports on Sanitary Sewer Overflow

MOBILE, Ala. — The Satsuma Water & Sewer Board responded to a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) on October 9. It occurred at a manhole south of the Satsuma Waffle House on the western side of Highway 43.

The estimated amount of overflow was 200 gallons. The SSO was absorbed by the ground.

According to Satsuma officials, the sewer gravity main was plugged 450 feet north of 5801 Highway 43. It is suspected that the recent dry weather allowed grease and rags to create a plug.

Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County, advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
