Three local physicians honored by Medical Association of the State of Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. — The Mobile County Health Department proudly recognizes three distinguished local physicians for honors and leadership recently acknowledged by the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.

Dr. Jorge Alsip, MD, MBA, FACEP, was recognized with the W. Jeff Terry Award, which honors a physician whose career reflects high ethical and professional standards along with outstanding leadership and advocacy.

Dr. Howard Rubenstein, MD, was recognized with the Samuel Buford Word Award, the Medical Association’s highest honor, presented for service to humanity beyond the usual scope of medical practice and often at personal sacrifice.

Dr. Nina Ford Johnson, MD, has assumed a major statewide leadership role as President of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama after being sworn in during the association’s annual meeting.

“These recognitions reflect the extraordinary talent, compassion, and leadership found in our local medical community,” said Dr. Kevin Michaels, Mobile County Health Officer. “Dr. Alsip, Dr. Rubenstein, and Dr. Johnson have each made lasting contributions to medicine and to the people of Alabama through their service, advocacy, and commitment to patient care and service.”

MCHD celebrates these physicians for bringing distinction to Mobile and for exemplifying the values of leadership, professionalism, and service. Their recognition on the state level highlights the strength of the physician community serving this region every day.
