Tropical storm to disrupt COVID-19 schedule
MOBILE, Ala. — The National Weather Service office in Mobile has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Mobile County. The threat of inclement weather will alter the schedule for the Mobile County Health Department (MCHD) to offer COVID-19 tests and vaccines.
Tropical Storm Ida is forecast to quickly strengthen into a hurricane as it moves northwest into the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday. Ida is projected to make landfall along the southeastern or south-central Louisiana coast by Sunday night.
Mobile County could feel the effects of heavy rain and wind as the eastern side of the storm passes through. For this reason, the COVID-19 vaccine and testing events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Newburn Building (248 Cox Street in Mobile) have been canceled.
However, the Saturday Clinic conducted by Family Health – the primary care division of MCHD – will still take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the Keeler Memorial Building (251 North Bayou Street in Mobile). COVID-19 vaccine and testing will be available at that time.
Please follow MCHD’s social media channels for additional information.
